Best Italian restaurants in Copenhagen – Complete Guide

July 4, 2017 by Alexandra Vidakovics

Pasta, parmesan, pizza, parma, prosciutto, panna cotta…and by the end of this blog post you will know the best places to indulge all of these and have a list of recommendations with the best Italian restaurants in Copenhagen. Copenhagen is home to tonnes of authentic and welcoming Italian eateries. Some 100% Italian and others with a Scandinavian twist: instead of a strict and traditional Italian way, these restaurants tend to go for innovative combinations and brave pairings adding a slight Nordic touch. Tap into Copenhagen’s diverse Italian restaurant scene with us to discover the best places for your pre or post running tour dinner.

High-end Italian Restaurants in Copenhagen

Era Ora

Ero Ora is the only restaurant on our list with a Michelin star and it serves Italian fusion or what they call “Italian Inner Fusion”. Italian Inner Fusion means a fusion kitchen but with ingredients and elements from within the Italian borders. The price is not surprisingly rather steep but the food is equally delicious, so if you are up for an incredible Italian meal in Copenhagen – then Era Ora is your place. The magnificent pairing will give you a 360° food and wine experience and you will experience quality Italian ingredients in a modern fine dining context, all of this presented in an artistic and playful manner.

Brace

Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, Brace offers a mix of Nordic and Italian cuisine: great textures, innovative flavours and neat decoration. The chef, Nicola Fanetti previously worked for Era Ora and while Era Ora has more focus on Italy, Nicola reportedly wanted more emphasis on the Nordic cuisine and this is why he went solo and opened Brace in the beginning of 2017 adding another candidate to the list of best Italian restaurants in Copenhagen.

Bæst

Bæst is an organic, Italian eatery with a joint bakery located in the multicultural and hip Nørrebro district. The keywords are high-quality ingredients, sustainability and ecology which result in simple but authentic dishes and an exceptionally interesting wine collection. The burrata cheese is a must and this is what will keep you going back more dinners. In case you are more of a dessert person, then go for their home made gelato, made from their own cows’ milk. Bæst is owned by Christian Puglisi – a form Noma chef, who now also runs the restaurant Relæ,  Manfred’s and Rudo (see below9

FAMO

FAMO refers to FAbio and MOrten, both veterans of Michelin starred Era Ora and they are proved to be worthy of their past: FAMO has recently been awarded the prestigious Bib Gourmand in Guide Michelin Nordic Cities given for high-quality food and affordable prices. In addition to the high quality, FAMO also offers what they call a “wonderful chaos”. It’s a place that is easy going, and you can safely bring kids – it will only add to the family style Italian atmosphere this place offers. It’s a joy to eat here and if you like it, then they have another couple of Italian restaurants in Copenhagen – but that is for another list.

Mother

“Really good simple soul food” this is how Mother has positioned itself on the market of Italian Restaurants in Copenhagen. It is mostly known for its pizzas and being located in the famous meatpacking district (Kødbyen) and this eatery stays true to its district with the industrial building and raw look. There is always a crazy amount of locals and expats hanging out in this neighbourhood drinking craft beers, dancing and of course, eating pizzas at Mother.

Our small favourites

Il buco

Il Buco (the hole) is a truly romantic, hidden “hole” in Copenhagen where you can meet locals who are living in the trendy (and authentic) Island Brygge – and all the other Copenhageners who don’t mind jumping on their bike to get to this place. It is located in an old warehouse and if you go there on a Tuesday evening you get 6 dishes and a glass of wine for 350 DKK. On the top of this bargain, you will be all sitting together at communal tables making you feel like you are invited to a true Italian dinner.

Alimentari

Alimentari is Il Buco’s neighbour and has the same owners as Il Buco. It’s a small shop, it’s a bakery, it’s an eatery and it’s a place where you can truly relax while listening to the staff’s Italian chatter in the background. Their bread is some of the best in Copenhagen, their wine is natural and juicy and their homemade simple dishes are nothing less than delicious. So a great place to eat and a magnificent place to buy Italian specialities.

Address: Njalsgade 19C, 2300 København S

PS: Il Buco also owns another little bar/eatery called La Banchina. It’s an old boat house at Refshaleøen and though its a bit out of the city, its worth the 10-minute bike ride. Sit and sip your wine while the sun is setting and appeciate your 100% life quality moment.

Italio disco

It is not a discotheque but a cosy restaurant with simple set up keeping the focus on the magnificent combination and variety and you can directly tell from the look of the food that chefs have a great passion for art. There is one fine menu changing periodically so you don’t have to worry about not being able to choose. It’s hard to describe this place – other than unpretentious, high quality and an absolute must try of the best Italian restaurants in Copenhagen

Address: Oehlenschlægersgade 5, 1663 København V

Bevi bevi

Bevi bevi (Italian word for drink, drink) is a tiny restaurant also functioning as a wine bar serving cold Italian classics. It can be described with the words: homely, relaxed, charming, cosy, fashionable so what is not to like about it? It is also a great place to sip an Aperol Spritz on the sidewalk of Vesterbro in the summer time: an underestimated activity we should all be doing more…

Buon appetito,
