RADISSON COLLECTION ROYAL HOTEL – WHY YOU SHOULD BOOK A ROOM HERE

Wondering where to stay when you come to Copenhagen? We have a few hotels we recommend our running tour guests and common for all of them all are that its high quality, friendly staff and just nice. If you are just somewhat interested in design and architecture or just want to experience what good design can do for your relaxation and general well- being an obvious choice would be the Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Copenhagen. And it is only a few minutes walk from the Central Station, Tivoli and the City Hall.

When it was finished in 1960 Royal Copenhagen was not only the first high-rise building in Copenhagen it was also the first true design hotel in the world. Everything was drawn and designed by now iconic Danish designer Arne Jacobsen. From the building itself to furniture and lighting all the way down to the glasses and silverware in the restaurant. This means that you have rooms where you can enjoy unique views of Copenhagen surrounded by lush furniture…down to the detail. A real joy for…..most people 😊

Royal

In recent years the hotel has been gently renovated and restored back to the design ideas of Arne Jacobsen. We often pick guests up from the hotel and as true Danes, every single guide enjoy starting and finishing our running tours at the Radisson Collection Hotel, simply because the surroundings are incredible and we often sneak in a 5 minute sit down in one of the Egg chairs. So when you return from your guided running tour you will enter into the impressive lobby with the iconic Egg, Swan and Pot chairs and the impressive floating staircase that is regarded as one of the most beautiful stairs in the world. As we are not only good friends with the Radisson crew but have also officially partnered with them as tour provider, our guests can finish off the run with a free cup of tea or coffee in the Café Royal and finish our run in a relaxed and invigorating way.

Talking of Café Royal I can highly recommend you to try the famous Afternoon Tea. Having been out running in the morning you certainly deserve a treat. And a treat it is. Lounging in the comfy chairs watching the world rush by in the street outside you will be served a nice selection of real Danish “smørrebrød”, hot scones and pastry as well as your choice of high quality tea. The pastry is all inspired by Arne Jacobsen’s designs and the colours in the restaurant. And we encourage you to go all in, so that when/if you have overeaten you are ready for a new running tour – you know who to call 😉. If you want to get the most authentic feel of design of Radisson Royal Collection Hotel try to sneak in to room 606. This is the a room in the hotel kept and maintained exactly as it was in 1960.

Apart from being centrally placed for sightrunning Radisson Collection Hotel is situated almost right across the street from Tivoli – our famous 175 years amusement park. In Tivoli you can ride one of the oldest roller coasters in the world – but be careful of your knees if you have long legs. Also you are very close to the City Hall and City Hall Square which is the starting point of Copenhagen’s main shopping street and one of the longest pedestrian shopping areas in Europe. Here you can shop in top design stores and local Danish outlets of all kinds. And you will get a good feel of the old city in central Copenhagen.

….and that’s it! A recommendation for a quality stay after a quality run!
